I have big news! I’ll be honest I’m a little late sharing it to Substack…and for that I apologise.
But should I *really* apologise? After all, that’s what this post is about. At least it’s about *not* apologising…
Anyway….
News came out this week in The Bookseller about my brand new book, No Worries If Not! - due for release 3rd August by the wonderful team at HarperNorth.
It’s a rom com - with an edge. And it’s about not saying sorry. About deciding, once and for all, to break up with the word ‘sorry’.
You know how, especially us women, apologise for literally EVERYTHING.
Like, you don’t want to go on that awful second date and you’re like, it’s not you it’s me. I’m sorry.
Or how you bump into someone in the supermarket and apologise, even though it’s your bare toes their trolley has just squished.
And what about those fateful words, no worries if not…? Do you end every single email with them. You know, something like:
Oh I just noticed you’ve rescheduled that meeting for the 43rd time and, I’m so so sorry but this new time lands on my birthday and, I really hate to be a pain but as I’ve already booked the day, sorry week, off and have spent hundreds of literal pounds on the first holiday I will have been on in a decade I wondered, if it’s not too much trouble, if we could change it back? But I totally understand if that’s a bit of a pain so no worries if not!
Hmm…

Anyway, the book should be fun. Here’s how my lovely editor, Genevieve Pegg, Publishing Director at HarperNorth, described it:
“With huge heart and sharp humour, Lucy’s novel hits a nerve – finding out why so many of us catch ourselves apologising for our own ideas, questions and sometimes even our actual presence…and asking what would happen to one woman’s career, friendships and love life if she tried, just tried, to ban the word ‘sorry’ from her vocab.
“A love story with all the messy bits of life left in, No Worries If Not! is wildly entertaining, brilliantly honest and made me immediately want to leap on a train to Newcastle to visit the places that come to life so brilliantly in the story."
It’s now available to pre order - and don’t forget, you don’t pay a penny for pre orders until publication time! But every pre order helps spread the word and get the book jumping up the charts…
To whet your appetite, here are a few pics taken from the book trailer. Yes, thanks to some funding from North of Tyne Combined Authority / Creative UK, I have been working with some seriously good regional talent to create a Hollywood style trailer because, why not? I’ll certainly not apologise for it. :-)
The trailer will be released soon, along with the cover (which is looking fabulous btw!).
