How to talk to someone who is hearing voices
This is an article I wrote for Metro but I thought it also needed special mention in a blog post here....because it's an area of mental health that is incredibly stigmatised in many ways. And we must talk about it more.
People who hear voices are not always frightened, and neither should you be. But for people who hear voices, validation is incredibly important. You don't have to believe what the voice is saying, but believing that your loved one is hearing it goes a long way.
I spoke to the lovely Rai Waddingham for this as well as Dr Liam Gilligan, a Clinical Psychologist. It's an area I'd love to learn more, and write more about and I really hope we can get to a place, myself included, where we feel less frightened by this part of some people's lives.
Please have a read. You can find the full article online at Metro here.
