Have yourself a merry 90s Christmas
Hi everyone.
It’s fair to say I’ve become really crappy when it comes to keeping my blog and substack mailouts up to date. In fact, I think the sun was shining last time I sent one…and that feels like an age ago right now (I write these words as I’m tucked underneath a heavy blanket on the sofa with my feet in furry slipper boots that look like they once belonged to Big Foot).
BUT….I’m writing now. AND I have news! My new book, SNOWFLAKE, is published in less than a month! Which is pretty exciting. This new non fiction exploration of mental health stigma, with a foreword from the absolutely brilliant Sue Baker OBE, will be out on 5th January (but it’s available to pre-order now!).
It explores 10 of the most harmful mental health stereotypes and, for all you music fans out there, I was lucky enough to interview the brilliant Maureen Herman of Babes in Toyland fame as well as psychotherapist and former Babyshambles member, Adam Ficek.
The book also features 20 other expert contributors including Jonny Benjamin, Natasha Devon, Shahroo Izadi and many more…
If you’re in the North East, you might also be interested in the Snowflake launch event, taking place at Waterstones in Newcastle on 11th January with a brilliant panel and host.
More details and tickets here.
Books for 90s music lovers this Christmas
I also wanted to give a little shout out to my two novels in case anyone’s looking for any last minute Christmas presents for 90’s-obsessed music-lovers who enjoy a bit of humour and are interested in mental health. THE TWENTY SEVEN CLUB and its sequel PARKLIFE follow Emma and Dave, two best mates living in 1990s Hull who bond over music, trauma and too much booze.
I’m also currently writing a present day romcom for Harper Collins. Romantic comedy is a totally new direction for me - and it’s been great fun to write. I’ll be sharing more on that soon.
I hope that these little literary creations of mine might be of interest - either for Christmas gifts or New Year’s reads.
Oh, and do share any of your music and book related news and views in the comments :-)
Take care, wrap up and have yourself a merry 90s Christmas 🎄
